Welcome Davis Goodwin!

I morgon, torsdag 1 december landar Davis Goodwin på Arlanda för att ansluta till vårt seniorlag. Davis är 25 år, kan spela både forward och back och har spelat juniorhockey i Kanada och universitetshockey i USA. Davis är född i Gatineau, en stad med 300 000 invånare belägen mitt emot Kanadas huvudstad Ottawa men på norra sidan Ottawafloden.

För att vi skall lära känna Davis innan han kommer in på isen i Ice Sport Arena första gången, förhoppningsvis redan nu på fredag när Hedesunda IF kommer på besök, har han fått svara på några frågor:

Welcome to Gällsta IK and Sweden Davis. I have some questions for You, first, by what will You contribute to the team?

- I am going to contribute by doing anything I can to help the team win. Whether it be a defensive role or an offensive one (or both), I always put the team’s needs first. My versatility is probably my greatest strength; meaning that I can be put on defense or forward, first line or bottom line, powerplay or penalty kill, it doesn’t matter to me because I am here to help the team in any way needed.

Your best skills (on ice)?

- My best skills (in no particular order) are: my defensive awareness, my physical way of playing, my deking abilities and my willingness to lead by example on the ice. I said it in the last answer but versatile is usually the best way to describe my skill set because I am confident in my skills regardless of what position I am playing.

Your best memory on ice?

- I have been very lucky to have played hockey my entire life which means I have created many meaningful memories with many amazing people throughout the years. If I were to choose only one it would be when my local team and school team won the regional championships in the same year. We managed to make it to the final four provincially for minor hockey and for the scholastic league. My teammates on both teams were great and our cohesion/desire to win led us to an incredibly fulfilling season that was filled with fun and success.

Other interests than hockey?

- My number one interest will forever be hockey and everything surrounding the game however, some of my side interests include: exercising, traveling, listening to music, volunteering, discovering new skills and learning about history from around the world.

What have You been studying at college and university? Have You finished studying, got any degree? Have You started working?

- I have studied a variety of subjects however my two main programs were: Arts with a minor in history and Sports Management. I went to school in both Canada and the United-States as I balanced learning while progressing in hockey. I graduated from the University of Ottawa and immediately after began working for the Canadian Government before I decided to come join Gallsta IK.

Your expectations for the games and your visit to Sweden?

- I am extremely excited to be joining the team and start getting on the ice to help build chemistry with my teammates. I go into every game with the same mindset and desire to win regardless of the opponents that we will face. I expect to bring a positive influence to the locker room and a willingness to do anything to help the team reach their goals.

As for Sweden, I have only ever been to Stockholm before so I am not sure what to expect outside of the city. However, from what I have heard, Gnarp and the surrounding area is filled with welcoming people and beautiful scenery. I look forward to meeting my team, the locals and maybe learning a bit of Swedish before I return to Canada. I am also excited about trying the local foods. All in all I am very excited to be joining the organization and look forward to getting started on the ice! Thank you to everyone who made this opportunity possible.
